Years ago I owned a winchester 356 big bore and found even then ammo and brass were hard to come by. Mine would handle 358 cartridges just fine, saving the 356 brass for hunting loads. The same dies are used for reloading 356 and 358. Frank C.

I had a pair of Marlin 336ER rifles in 356 WIN about eight years ago . I had one set up for jacketed and the other for cast . Killed deer with both of them . I had about 100 pieces of new WIN 356 brass , 100 pieces I'd shot in the two guns and a couple new old stock boxes of factory 250 grain loads . I never tried the 358 brass .

I have a project for a 336 I want rebored and rechambered to 356. I have one box of factory ammo. Plan on making extra brass from 444 marlin.

JSH, interesting project, it would be much cheaper to convert a 336 in 35 rem. to 358. As I mentioned in another post the 356 and 358 are next of kin the 356 just has a slight rim. The 35 rem is set up to handle rimless cartridges. You most likely already have the 336 in 30 cal. If so it could be traded for a 35 which is not too shabby as it is. Its just a shame when Remington developed the 35 they didn't use the standard head size. Frank C.
