I was wrong, steam cylinder oil is still available! You just have to talk to big users and the big users today are running steam locomotives. Here is a link; http://www.southernsteamtrains.com/misc/steam-oil-hwade.htm>http://www.southernsteamtrains.com/misc/steam-oil-hwade.htm Neat, it still contains tallow or something similar which is polar. It has to for it to work. The problem is it is not called steam cylinder oil. Mobil makes it and calls it simply Cylinder Oil. Mobil makes 4 different viscosity grades for different temperatures. Unfortunately only available in 5 gallon buckets at ~100$ a pop. Might be awhile before I try it. Steve It always pays to have the Right Stuff.

If we all chipped in and bought a bucket of the stuff, and a pickup full of beeswax, plus whatever else goes into it, we could supply the entire CBA for the next 20 years!:)

a friend of mine and I split a bucket of the original Alox years ago. I could use a quart or a gallon if some others want to split it. (I live in Pulaski, Virginia)

It may not be necessary to buy 5 gallons. Here is a supplier of small quantities: http://www.steamenginelube.com They also have sodium grease which is Taurak 250, Hawkeye, locomotive side rod grease, which have been unavailable for some time.
