Yes...I am also interested in what caliber classes will be set up.

David Reiss CBA Membership Director posted this 24 December 2016

That is what I'm asking for from the members interested. Ideas, suggestions, etc. Nothing is set as yet, we are still trying to see how much interest there is and will take all the ideas and make them into a match rules.

Yes.  Don't have one, but thinking about it.

If I do get one, I'm undecided between a .223 or a“Deer Caliber".

David Reiss CBA Membership Director posted this 03 January 2017

Now is a very good time to get one. Prices are as low as I have seen them. You can build one right now, even using a complete kit and a lower for under or right at $400. I have even seen some combo complete rifles with two uppers, .223 & .300 Blackout for just over $600. Any caliber will be allowed, but probably split into 2 caliber classes.

Yes, I'm interested and will vote yes in the poll.

My main reason for support is to open up an event where owners of those types of guns will have an opportunity to challenge each other via a Postal event.

I don't have an AR type rifle. But I'm not like a few of my older local CBA match shooters who say..."I've never had a computer, I don't have a computer and I'll never have a computer". This is in response to receiving their match results via e-mail. Someday I'd like to have an AR if it can be chambered in 7.62x39. They were available like that at one time but hard to find now.

Tom,

Thanks for your support. You are correct about the 7.62X39 ARs, they are not as common. I did see during the holiday ad blitz a couple for around $550, but most now are $750 or more. Now that the election has put down some of the gun control threat, maybe they will come down and be more available. The complete uppers & barrels are available for builds, but they are too high in cost for me. I have 6 lowers right now waiting for the right caliber uppers to come down in cost. Some that look promising are

 .30 Rem AR , .458 SOCOM , 7mm Whisper, 7mm TCU (already have Contender) , .25-45 Sharps & .358 Yeti

Yes, I'm interested. I have an A2 upper and am getting a optics upper ready to go.

OU812 posted this 05 January 2017

Optics are fine for developing loads, but open sites would be more challenging and more fun IMO. The latest Colt A4 (I think it is called A4) rifle with removable handle would be perfect for this...IF you can find this longer rifle version. I have a Clinton era Colt H Bar rifle (shaved bayonet lug, 5 round clips) that may work. There are so many manufacturers of this rifle, especially the carbine version, but I would rather shoot the longer and heavier rifle version.

This is Colt's newest rifle version with longer 20&rdquobarrel. Colt AR15A4 list price about $1100.00

At this time that is way too much to pay for such a configuration. This rifle could be built for easily under $550. Building ARs is very simple, I can do it in about an 1.5 hours and I am not fast. I have taught people with no gunsmithing experience and some just getting into shooting. Tool cost is also minimal. Once you do it, you will be surprised just has easy it is and what an accurate and reliable firearm you will have.

Yes but mine is scoped but easy enough to back to stock sights.

David Reiss CBA Membership Director posted this 09 January 2017

My thought is to have two categories of calibers and then two classes for optics and iron sights.

The poll above is great, but I would encourage any that would like to express their interest in a bit of a deeper fashion to go ahead and enter the postal match #16 Lever. Pump, Auto, Break action match and shoot the AR.  We will separate iron and scoped as it is now, and see if there are enough entries to divide further in the match report.   As the current scope limit is 6x in that match, we will put the higher powered scopes in on their own.

There are not currently a lot of shooters in the match #16, recent years both the iron sight as well as the scoped class has been won by the same lever action rifle.  It would be great to see how the modern sporting rifles stack up.

Match #16 Targets due back to me October 15.

Group 4.00 for CBA members, 5.00 for non-members

Score 3.50 for CBA members, 4.50 for non-members.

Either mail in your match order like normal, along with any other matches that you want to shoot, or PM or email me your request for this match with your mailing address and then mail me a check and a note.

If we can get a good number of shooters with tech data for each filled in, we can get a very good idea of how to structure future matches if adjustments are needed.  If we don't get much of a response, we will also get the data we need.
