I've mentioned my new Lyman Mustang break barrel in-line muzzle loader in previous posts. Something that has been on my mind since the purchase  is that when the action breaks open it sets the firing pin in the cocked position. I don't see real danger in loading the rifle in this condition as no primer is installed. What my thought and worry is, should the rifle be put away after clean-up  in this cocked condition or should I dry fire it to release the spring tension? I thought I'd ask the group as I'm not used to dry firing weapons.  What's your thought please?  Gp

Thank you nosee. Sometimes the simplest of  things escape me. It is somewhat of a wonder I still have all my digits after 45yrs of carpentry and 35yrs. reloading.  Gp

Primers used in a In-Line may have Black Powder residure that could cause a bit of rust on your hammer nose or clog up your nipple.

I have a buddy in N.C. that uses primers punched out on his shotgun press as "snap caps" for his In-Line. Paints 'em red and keeps a few in an old pill bottle in his Black Powder shooting box.

Can't have ya getting yore nipples clogged.

nosee: We are blessed here in S.W. Idaho with a very arid climate. It can happen, but you have to be pretty negligent to get things to rust. So far, not knowing any different, I've been spraying RemLube down the bore after cleaning and cleaning it out with alcohol before shooting. Bman: No worrys I have hundreds of fired hulls to pick  primers from. Thanks guys. Gp
