Until I became a Cast Bullet Association and a Cast Bullet Forum member, I had never heard of a NOE bullet mould. Most of my bullet casting was for handguns. I cast some for rifles but never really got serious. I now have the bug and am really getting into cast bullet rifle shooting.. I own several moulds, consisting of Lyman-RCBS-Lee. I've pulled up the NOE website and read a bunch. I'm still in the dark about NOE.

I would like to hear from  owners of NOE moulds and any of their other loading products .I want to hear both good and bad. I just want to set back and see your responses.

Thanks in advance

David Cogburn-Mashburn

Thanks to all of you who have responded to my inquiry about NOE moulds. With the information that you people have given me ,NOE is going to have a new customer, ME..

Thanks-Mashburn

Al"Swede" Nelson is one of the nicest professionals you will deal with. The molds are top quality. You have nothing to fear. I have several and will buy more. They are well worth the price. Now if we all could just pick the right "magic" bullet on the first try.........

Since you already do Lee moulds, you know the issues with aluminum moulds. My NOE's work great after they are cleaned and heat cycled a few times. They cast to the right size with specific alloys. I like bronze moulds but to each there own. His business practices and reputation is spotless. FWIW

I deal with Al both as a representative of CBA and for personal use. He is a big supporter of NOE and there has never been a product that I have not been perfectly satisfied.

However to be fair, Accurate, Mountain, M-P, Lee and CBE all are supporters of the CBA and I own molds from all of them. No complaints whatsoever.

We are just so fortunate to have all these quality molds to choose from.

I own, use, and enjoy NOE products, moulds and the expanders that drop into the Lee Universal Expander die. My only disappointment is when I want an NOE mould and there are none in inventory, or they are only a group buy special. This is the hazard of a small operation. My advice is when you see a mould available, jump on it!

David is correct in saying that we are lucky to have so many choices these days when we need/want a new mould.  Looking over my collection it is easy to see that NOE is a favorite. I'm a Thousand dollar club member two times over +  and until now I've resold only one of Al's moulds, this being MY fault for not looking close enough at the specs. The nose of the bullet was just to large to fit my 30-30.  The tooling available makes tailor fitting of bullets to fit various rifles an easy chore. The gas check seating die being a favorite of mine sees a lot of use. On top of this, Al is a very accommodating business owner and has gone farther than any merchant I deal with to make sure that I'm happy with the products he sells. Yes, I'm a big fan of Noe products. Gp

Have four of their 5 cavity molds and all are excellent molds, both in quality and operation. I always order the top punch with the molds to ensure proper nose fit.  ONLY issue I have had was the top punch has a very sharp edge and would sometimes bite into the bullet nose (I use a soft alloy) if not aligned close to perfect when sizing.  I fixed it by rotating the punch against a piece of 400 grit held on a finger tip to slightly bevel the punch to take off the sharp edge,  NOE molds are worth every penny.

I am getting close to joining the thousand dollar club with NOE products. Amazing to me that I can only order maybe 1 or 2 molds a year from him and he remembers talking to me like it is yesterday. Al is absolutely the man and you can almost always talk to him direct. I cannot say how many times I am wanting one of his molds and he will say "the computer says we are out but let me check"; then comes back with what I want and tells me "there was one left". I don't know of anybody else that will get up and go physically look when the computer says they are out. If I request a mold he is out of, if he is not in that much of a rush to produce inventory he will sometimes cut me one between runs. I know he is cutting 5 or maybe 10 for inventory at the same time, but that helps out everyone. I get my mold, Al makes a sale and increases inventory and others can now order a previously out of stock mold.

I did send one back that I had problems with.... Al himself tried it out and said I didn't do something correctly during break in and it needed tweaking. Al did it for me and when I got it back if it worked any slicker the thing would cast bullets for me while I drank beer. Al has a "No BS" warranty. Al will tell you if you are the reason it is jacked up. He will also replace without question any mold that did not leave correct.

I would like to think Al is a friend of mine.

NOE is the first place that I check when looking for a new mold for the following reasons.

1. - I can check the drawings of any mold to see if the dimensions are what will fit my needs. In my experience they are accurate.

Often there are various diameters  of the same mold  to chose from

2. - Quality of the molds is top notch and the advertised spec's are accurate in my experience.

3. - Semi custom mold at a production price.

4. - Customer service is  faultless. Got a personal phone call from Swede once apologizing for an order mix-up. When is the last

time that any one has gotten a personal call from the owner of a company apologizing for anything ?

I don't remember this being a problem in the forum rules but if it is, I apologize in advance and will remove it.

I am getting some vibrations about NOE with all the sales since the first of the year and then the latest 25 percent off deal. Have never seen one that deep from them before. I've been wrong before.

R. When you have as many slow movers on your shelf for several years, it is better to try to recover some of the cost, rather than letting sit another few years. Just because someone liked it and designed it, doesn't mean it will sell well. That is what it is,  "what's on the shelf" sale. IMHO

That along with the IRS knocking once again was what I figured was going on. Just have never seen so many sales in so short of time from NOE before., relatively speaking of course. Hope that's all.

By the looks of his present inventory, Al is cleaning house pretty well.

I own around 8 or 9 NOE molds. They are great quality and perform well. The business is run different though. They operate on a "group buy" model so a lot of different designs are introduced through the year with people signing up for purchase and then the tooling is ordered and the molds made. IMO many of the designs are a flash in the pan so to speak. What I mean is they seem to get a bullet design made up, the people who pre-ordered it get their's and they stock a few extra and when they're gone it can be a long time (years?) before they have any more stock in that model. Now I know nothing of running a bullet mold business but it would seem to me that the bread and butter of the mold business would be 4 cavity handgun molds in 9mm, 38/.357, .44, .45 and some .30 &.45 rifle molds. I have needed molds for guns and NOE had a design I liked but I ended up going elsewhere 6 different times because of lack of inventory. And some of these were common handgun designs. Even after I purchased elsewhere I would check back throughout the year and the inventory I had been looking for was never replaced. I really like the NOE molds I have though and they run some great sales around July 4th and Xmas.

I think this thread's purpose was to educate D. Cogburn on the quality of NOE molds and whether or not they stand behind their products. From the posts we have established that NOE molds and products are top notch and Al Nelson not only stands behind his products, he goes above and beyond to support the CBA.

So let's not criticize how Al runs his company and speculate on its future. Since NOE is not the only quality mold maker we have to choose from, I think this is the best policy.

By the way, I placed my order with NOE today and was able to purchase 6 molds, in 4 different calibers I had been wanting and were on my wish list. I did not have to substitute a mold for another I really wanted.

Hello bill,

I'm the guy who put the discussion on the forum about shooting cast .17 cal bullets in centerfire rifles. I got a lot of response and David  Reiss was nice enough to loan me his NOE .17 mold so that I could speed the experiment up. I received it today, and was so excited that I quit burning oak leaves and pine needles in my 2 acre yard and started casting 17 bullets. I had heard so many horror stories about casting 17 bullets that I thought I would have a lot of trouble. In a short time I was casting perfect bright shiny 17 bullets, I never had a frosted one. All of them were bright and shiny projectiles. I haven't weighed them yet but have measured them in diameter. The gas check bullet seems to come out slightly smaller than the PB. Like .0005, which in my case is good. This is the best mold that I have ever used, I cast more good 17 bullets than I do with my larger caliber stuff. You will definitely have me for a customer. I'm going to try and pick up some linotype next week when I have to go to Ft. Smith Arkansas. I'm going to order some .17 gas checks tonight before your sale ends. I'm having trouble on your website finding .17 cal sizing dies and gas check seaters.

I'm also the person who has the article about NOE molds on at the present time.

Thanks,

I own only one NOE mold so far. But it works great at the casting bench and shoots great! The bullet is a 266-140 for 6.5 BR in an XP-100. It was used all last season in CBA matches.

My current project is a Rolling Block in .38-55. I own 3 molds and after those are load/range tested (hopefully soon) if a different mold is going to be sought, the first pkace I'll look will be NOE.

Hello to all of you out there.

I made my first order from NOE last week. I had some misunderstandings about a certain product on his web-site. before I placed the order I called the company with my questions. Evidently it was Lunch hour and there was no one in the office. In a few minutes ,Bill himself called me and solved my problem quickly and we had a nice visit. I'm hooked.

Thanks Bill,

David (Mashburn),

What did you get from NOE and what do you think of it. On my last order I ordered two molds for a friend who does not have access to the internet and has never seen their molds. He just trusted me. Well he was very surprised when he got the molds. He is a NOE customer for life now.
