Hello

First time here, but have been shooting nearly all my life,as well as casting and reloading, here I am to learn new things and to hopefully help others,I am a local volunteer in the local fire brigade,I shoot and cast and shoot.

At the moment I am working on loads for a Martini Cadet in 310,that is a challenge.

I live in a timber town, worked in the timber industry since leaving school, alas I had to give work up for ill health and mobility problems, but enjoy my few hobbies of reloading and casting.

Hope to make new friends.

Cheers

Welcome. Always glad to hear from folks "down under". I served with some of your countrymen in Vietnam: great guys. Those 310 Martinis are something I always wanted, just neat little guns, but every time I found one it was either way out of my price range or junk. Are your gun laws really as strict as we have been hearing? Would like to hear from you on that subject.

Hi beagle6

Thanks for the welcome, some of my best mates are from USA and are outstanding people, would love to visit the US one day, will see on that one.

My little Martini cadet,I got was in good condition, only thing that devalued it was the previous owner drilled and tapped the receiver for a sight and when he sold it took it off and left holes in the side,so when I bought it ($250)I made up some plugs for it and is missing a few stock parts(sling swivels) but have them to put on when I get around to it.

Yes,our gun laws are restrictive,I think our government does not trust us with semi-autos,like for example when I applied to get a "Permit to Acquire" the Cadet,I was asked by the Licensing division, why I needed that for I had a .308W,which in their words was close to the 310 Cadet,I replied it was underpowered(310) where the 308Win was for hunting big animals and the Cadet would be used for Targets and small animals, like rabbits foxes and such, without blowing a hole in the meat and skin,I was approved,I have heard stories of some being told that they could not have that or this calibre, but when they appealed it,they won,go figure?

hope to be able to contribute to the forum.

Cheers

Hodgieno3, Welcome aboard!

I have a Cadet, which when I got it was rechambered to accept .32-20 brass.  It shot OK with the RCBS heeled bullet and a compressed caseful of IMR4198, but I wanted a light rifle for .38 Special and had mine rebarreled, and have been very happy with it in that configuration.

Our 4198 powder we buy here is one of your Mulwex ADI powders, but I forget which one it is.  But if you have any, you cannot get enough powder into the case to get into trouble.  The 120-grain heeled bullet cast 1 to 30 tin-lead worked well for me.

Your story of the bureaucrat dimwit who thought the .310 "was close to a .308, so why do you need it?"  remind me of a story told to me by a buddy in New York who wanted to apply for a permit to purchase a S&W .44 revolver.  The ignorant female dog said, "but you have two .22s already?"

My buddy replied, "Lady, wouldn't you rather trade in those cute little 34Bs you have for 36Cs?, then maybe the men on this side of the counter would SMILE at you, you might actually get married one day before you turn 40 and you wouldn't have to live with your mother anymore..."

He got the Model 29.  But this was back in the '70s and today for the same remark you would be jailed for your insensitivity because not all city bureaucrats who "look like women" are...

What is our world coming to????
