Hi all, I am returning to shooting and reloading after a twenty year hiatus. I used to load for revolvers and did a bit of casting (which I loved) Recently I was given a Remington 700 in 22-250 as a gift.  I honestly didn't know what it was as my only prior long gun experience had been .22 Rimfire. As I started researching I learned that it was a wonderful cartridge to hand load for. However I have no use for a 4,000 foot per second screamer and the recoil is more than I care for.  My quest to learn about how to tame this beast for my casual target shooting at one hundred yards led me back to cast bullets and the search for bullets led me to the CBA. After lurking for a bit I was amazed by the knowledgable posts that I read and decided to join. I have been on a couple of other forums, but none that offered what I am seeing here.  I doubt that I know enough to make much of a contribution, but no doubt I can learn a great deal.

hi ... welcome ... it would be great if you decide to pursue cast in your 22-250 .... check out the archives ( search ) for the adventures of joeb. with his varminter .... there is increased interest lately for the small bores .... 22 and 6 mm .... so jump right in, we are learning together ... well, we are experimenting together .  we think we are sure that bullet fit is almost everything .   but not always ( g ) ...

I think you will find quite a number of friendly knowledgeable people here that want to help.  That was the main reason that I joined.

David,

The important thing to remember is that a rifle doesn't need to be run at full power any more than any other machine.

There are several here who use cast bullets in the .223 Remington and perhaps even the .22-250, who would be able to help you.

I think that the successful accomplishment of an accurate cast bullet .22-250 load would make a great thread which many would enjoy reading!

I wish to thank each of you for the warm welcome and I am certainly planning to pursue casting and loading for the 22-250 as well as my .32 Magnum and .357 Magnum revolvers. I'm excited to discover the CBA and this forum. I have to confess that I have very little experience with experimentation with loads. When I first reloaded in the '90s, I had an older mentor who would give me a recipe for my .38 Spl and I would just just do it and it worked. Now that I'm returning to hand loading all these years later I'm quickly discovering how little I know. I have purchased Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook 4th edition and never having loaded for a bottle necked rifle cartridge I'm dumbfounded by all of the information. I'll get it, but I've got a bit of learning  to do.
