ok, this is what i do ... " so far, so good " ...

being a lowly plinker type, i occasionally stick a bullet part way down the barrel ... being also a lowly lazy type, so far i

put a pinch of fffg black powder in a primed case and see if it can pop it on out ....  sometimes takes a couple tries ..

"so far so good"  ...

mommy spank ? ....  could i be pushing my luck ??    comments welcome, wise arse remarks get extra credit ...

Nope, I use the same load that stuck the bullet plus 5%. Major General Julian Hatcher said that was the way to do it. It helps if you use the same fire formed case. FWIW, Ric

When I was 4 or 5, my mother told me to never stick a bullet in a barrel. Well................................... she never said what to do if I do. Now I know.

I think you need to use a shorter barrel...

I've always been afraid to try that stunt, I have been tempted.  just yesterday I had a squib load from a poor crimp on one of my 12ga. round ball loads. A .736 RB was quite "wedged" in a .730 bore. Luckily a round ball doesn't have a lot of bore contact and I was able to tap it out back toward the breach.  Still, I'm not going to try "Shooting it out" on a shotgun shell. I may not be a good one to trust "holding the beer" Ken.  Gp

key word is " pinch ' of black powder ... it has pressure about like 3 primers ....   besides, i like the idea of black powder in a 30 m1 carbine ...

... shorter barrel .... ok, A+ for you ...

I have seen barrels ringed trying to shoot them out in this manner.  The method I use is to flood the barrel with Ed's Red or Kroil, then stand the gun in the corner for a while to let the solvent weep around the bullet.  Then thread a Brownell's squibb rod onto the end of your Dewey cleaning rod and just tap it out.  Works with jacketed too.

I take mine to the range and usually at least once a month get a free lunch after clearing somebody's barrel.

With holy Black you can beat the bullet back down to the breach and then pull the nipple and trickle in as much powder(black powder) as you can. It won't be much but it will clear the barrel. With breach loaders i use a brass rod and tap the bullet out one end or the other. I'm with Ed, bad things could happen. I've seen a bp barrel split from being "short started". Especially dangerous if you use a wad to hold the powder in place.

I keep several 18" drill bits handy.  (only had to use one once, worked well).

Tape around the bit in 3 places to keep it centered in the bore.

Drill through the bullet.  Bullet taps out easily.

I watched them fill the bore and case-over-powder with cream of wheat, put in the case with ~?8 gr of unique, and shoot everything out-bullet and cow. 32/40? at 1983 Coors? Memory?

Joe,

I sure wouldn't try that with a Ballard ...

Once saw sompbody try that trick in a Winchester 54 in .30-'06. When the rifle hiccuped, nobody yell WHOA! quick enough and the dummy just couldn't wait to smack open the bolt with his mallet --- lucky he wasn't standing behind the gun ---  which went bang~!~ broke the bolt stop and trigger, shooting the bolt shot out the back of the rifle and it skidded 20 feet across the asphalt parking lot.  Scarred the bolt and ringed the barrel too.

NO THANKS!

I have removed stuck projectiles from helicopter 40 MM grenade launchers with a live round with the projectile removed.Never damaged a barrel but I would have replaced the barrel if I'd had one instead of shooting the projectile out of the bore.

What about bullets stuck in rifle barrels, particularly jacketed bullets?

I've driven stuck jacketed bullets out of machine gun barrels with a steel rod and a hammer.I don't even remember looking for ringed bores but that was a long time ago.In any case the barrels were again usable.

I put a brass tubing into the bore to protect the rifling and center the drill bit, then drill all the way through the bullet.  It will the drive out easily with a cleaning rod.
