i wonder if a fs index in an   excel     format would be useful ... then a guy could sort by author, subject, issue, date, key words, etc.

and even add new issues to his own index .. and just re-sort .  and add the corrections it would need after some old retired near-sighted guy that put it together missed a few oopsies ...

lets see ... 38 years x 6 issues .... does excel have 400 lines ??

volunteers ? .... anyone ? ... wilburforce ?? ...  i might try it but i would have to add comments such as " i tried that and it only worked half the time  " ... or " hey he spelt * grupes *  " wrong ...

.... stil ....

Can anyone jump in on this? I'd love a copy.

i originally proposed an EXCEL format but now think a data base format would be much more handy .... they have a much better search engine ... and still can sort well .  i use Filemaker data base daily, but probably the latest microsoft product would be more universal ;  Access or Azure ... i am not familiar with either but assume they too are easy enough to learn quickly.

I use https://www.libreoffice.org/, FREE, works as well as Office and is compatible, I agree File Maker Pro is a good program, bot not free, the last one I bought was version 8, not in the business any longer

If it is OK with the powers that be, I could post it , like i said  before I DO NOT remember where I downloaded it from and Do Not know of any Copy Writes, IIRC I donloaded it from the CBA.ORG website

 Davi and John

in my first post I asked if there was an index, the reply was , there is none, but there is one and I have it, but it stops at issue number 251

I was just looking for an extension of what I have

I have NO intention of adding to the one I have, or making an index of the Fouling Shot or anything else,  if there is someone working on an index, great, I am willing to help, if it's in my realm of capabilities

my interest in a searchable index for TFS is mostly for the challenge of it .....  and the end goal would be with permission from and benefit for the CBA ..... meanwhile, while the weather is good, .... i am shooting !! .... perhaps in snowy november i will begin looking  at transferring key words in text to a data base index.

If a complete Fouling Shot index is of enough interest to enough members there is no good reason a computer based index couldn't be built.  Once built it would only take a bit of work to add to it as new Fouling Shots appeared. That would be a major member benefit.

There are good reasons, some of them legal, why building on the existing index probably isn't a good idea.  The most important in my opinion is that a new index could be much better.

By  enough members and interest I mean people willing to work on it.  One form would be to have a key member willing to discuss and decide what capabilities the new index should have as well as some sort of template/guideline so several contributors could take on part of the work. The key member or a second key member could commit to the gather the work of the contributors. and integrate it into the index.

If there is enough interest it would be a great service to our members. Pay would be at the same hourly rate that I get.  If there is enough interest to get such a project off the ground, I can assure those involved that the "powers that be" (The CBA Board of Directors would be fully supportive.

What say ye?

i would be interested in doing an index; setting up a database seems easy enough ... once i learn how to do it in the most popular file format... interchangeable with MS Access .  then the user can continue to update his copy  as time goes on if necessary.   the trick will be to not wind up with the complete works of shakespeare ...  i will bug JohnA shortly for feasability discussions  ... and please pm me with any thoughts for structure .... or dire warnings ... heh .
