The Good with the Bad

I recently loaded up a batch of CTL-160-2R bullets (air cooled WW, powder coated) over 16 grains of 2400 to shoot at a local club service rifle match in my K31 Swiss 7.5 X 55.

The seating stem in my die does not fit the bullet ogive too well, and as a result left a sharp inscribed circle around the circumference of the nose of the bullet, about half way down the ogive..... Did not seem to affect accuracy very much, but HOLY MOLEY! Instant WADCUTTERS!  The bullets cut absolutely clean, perfect holes in the target that the whole cub was marvelling over!  You couldn't punch paper any better with an Office Depot paper punch!

No great addition to Cast Bullet Science here, but an interesting result coming from haphazard loading technique. The bloke scoring my target was very happy!

I think I'll leave it the way it is!  Would post pictures, but Wifey decided to clean up, and the targets are nowhere to be found......

I had the same the other week.  Softish bullet and the seating stem put a ring on the nose.  PERFECT holes.

Lapua make a commercial jacketed bullet with a cutting edge.

Ken; did this a few years back. No cutting edge (yet) but reforms to HP or FN.

Jeff, that is just the coolest idea ever!  Do you count the sledge hammer blows, or use a press?  Lol!   How about a punch to raise a little nipple on the nose.... Poor man's Tenex!

I used a 1/2 ton arbor press. The little half collar dictates the maximum depth of the forming pin and upon removing the collar the pin ejects the reformed round. Brass die is honed to .2248 inch to suit my rimfires.
