Finally dug my old ML double out of the safe , I had thought for some reason the thing was made in London , but it turns out it's marked “MACFARLANE NEW YORK” . I don't have my choke gauge here but I will check them tommorrow at the shop . Looked down the barrels with a bore lite and the darn things look clean and pit free . Little dusty of course . Took the pin out and tried to remove the barrels as they appear to be hooked breech but they're tight . I'll try again at the shop tommorrow when I have a plastic headed  persuader (hammer) . The pics were taken with my I Phone so they aren't the best . But give a slight idea non the less . Oh the locks snap into cock just like a new sidelock would today , very positive half cock and full cock .  http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/1_zpse05fd5c0.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/2_zps66dab977.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/3_zps75d8ea17.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/4_zps55aa26ea.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/5_zpsfab9a33c.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/6_zps59905aa8.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/7_zps320860c0.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/10%20gauge%20shotguns/8_zps1f81df12.jpg.html>

Loading birdshot for this thing is of no issue . But I've been thinking of a way to load the buckshot nested as I do in shot shells and make it relatively quick to get in the gun in the field . I am thinking eight 000 pellets should be a good load with 85 grains of Triple 7 2Fg or 2Fg Goex BP . 85 grains powder followed by an over powder wad followed by a cushion wad followed by perhaps the eight pellets held together with plastic wrap and finally an overshot wad . Dunno if this will work but it won't cost that much to try , well that is if the plastic wrap holds them together well enough for my purpose . I am sure pushing out the barrel when fired will make darn sure the stuff is shredded . I also read somewhere a fellow said he used dime wrappers for this purpose in a 12 gauge so I might try nickel wrappers in this 10 gauge !

Got an order from Midway today and there were a few things on the order for me ! 200 over shot , 200 over powder and 200 cushion wads for my MacFarlane 10 gauge muzzle loader . http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/Wads1_zps1b4437d3.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/Wads2_zpsf9bf8975.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/Wads3_zpsaf4654dc.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/26Nosler_zps11c4cfec.jpg.html>

This project kinda screeched to a halt . But I have a pound of Triple 7 2Fg coming this week so perhaps I can have this one going before dove season . Would like to kill a pair of dove and maybe a deer this year with the old gun ounce and a quarter of 9's should work for dove and 9-12 000 buck should do the same for deer with about 90 grains by volume of Triple 7 .

I'll see this weekend if I can't make myself a shot dipper that will hold 1 1/8 ounce of shot and maybe another dipper for 90 grains by volume of powder .

Like everything else this year or so it seems , I've yet to shoot this gun . Perhaps next week ! Kinda sounds like a broken record .

Well yesterday after dinner I finally got the old gun out . Popped a couple caps on both nipples , then loaded 85 grains by volume of Triple 7 2 Fg followed by an over powder wad followed by a cushion wad followed by 1 1/8 ounces of shot followed b y a over shot card . Slapped a #11 on the nipple , shouldered the g u n and let fly . And very pleasingly it went BOOM ! Repeated t he process in the left barrel and again the wanted boom . After that I cleaned it and will try  and pattern it with 000 Buck in the next day or so .

Went to the range after dinner last evening and tried this bad boy with 000 . Used 80 and 90 grain charges of 777 . Tried 9 and 12 pellets in nickel wrappers and without wrappers . Suffice to say 80 grains with 9 pellets worked best . But I need to make a die to cut over shot wads as the ones I got are a red CR or two to small. Need to get the top wad problem fixed and also run it over the Chrony . If velocity is over 1100 I am done !

Made a punch to cut larger diameter over shot wads . Cut some from the cardboard of Pepsi drink can containers . They were tight going down and packed well . However after shooting the firdt barrel the second still got a little loose . Maybe need to try a thicker or heavier material !

I might also try tamping them a bit more with a small plastic hammer or piece of wood . Might nit be getting them as tight as need be with just the ramped and my hand .

Thanks for the offer ! But I have a friend thats got the Lee 00 gang mold thats offerred it as well and he lives about 5 miles away . But to be honest I already have about 10 pounds of Hornady 00 , 20 pounds Remington 000 and 10 pounds reclaimed 0 to last me awhile . I might need to buy some #1 before to long , I started out using that in just the 16 gauge guns but have since found that all my 10 gauge breech loaders like it . And I suspect if I tried it in my 12's they might like it as well . Now I'll be the first to say I try and keep wat more stuff then a sane person really needs or can use . And with that being said I like to keep 000 , 00 , 0 , 1 and 3 buck on my shelf . I have several friends that swear by #4 buck for all their deer/buckshot needs and while it may work very well for them I was never overly impressed with it atleast from my patterning tests .

Got the overshot card wad thing worked out Friday ! I got some of the used work order cards from the gunshop and used my wad punch to cut a bunch . Anyway two of those stiff card wads seem to do the trick .   I loaded 000 in the left barrel and birdshot in the right . I fired the birdshot and checked the left barrel which seemed to be tight . Then I loaded 000 in the right barrel and fired it at my pattern board . Shook the gun and heard no shot rattle so I proceded to fire the left barrel at the pattern board . Put 16 out of the 18 pellets from the two barrels on my pattern board at 25 yards . So the next thing on the agenda is to kill a deer with the buck load and some squirrels and dove with the bird shot load .

Tried some .770” 730 grain slugs in the Macfarlane yesterday with 70 and 80 grains of Triple 7 granulated 2Fg at 25 yards . The 70 grain by volume loads weren't so great but the 80 grains by volume was pretty decent or so I thought ! http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/Macfarlane%20ML%20right%20and%20left%20barrel%20at%2025%20yards%20_zpszvhloqye.jpg.html>http://s50.photobucket.com/user/6pt-sika/media/Pedersoli%20ML%2025%20yards_zpsf4ndx8et.jpg.html>

Well the .780” 730 grain mold for full bore 10 gauge slugs is on it's way to me . And a friend gave me another 20 pounds of pure lead so I can make about 40+ pounds of these slugs for future use !
