THE 22-250 STRIKER AT 200 METER

Joe, Wow! Outstanding. To shoot a series like that with any cast bullet is an achievement. To do it at 220 yards with a short dumpy 22 cast bullet with a BC lower than whale dung and from a production pistol should get you a medal.
That is very close to the CBA Hunting Rifle class record for 5 shot aggregate at 200 yards.
Now tell us that you did it in a raging gale and you will have a story better than even folks who do much of their shooting with a keyboard.

the group is very impressive ... but for me , a lowly plinker guy ... it appears that you have hit the bean can 5 in a row at 200 yards .....

I shot in a raging herd of turkeys. The turkeys walk around at the range, are not bothered by the shooting noise, either chase them or throw rocks to make them fly away. I use rocks, can't chase; don't ask me. I don't think I saw a wild turkey before I was 40, maybe 50. Now they're like Canada Geese. Who don't summer in Canada any more.

Well, the Upper Nisqually Club occasionally has a small herd of elk wandering across the 100/200 yard range, and because of the dense woods and undergrowth on either side of the rifle range, you generally don't see them coming until they're pretty much in the line of fire.
And then Paul Bunyan R & S club's rifle range has occasional Columbia Blacktails wandering around on the slope between the 100 and 200 yard targets.
However, if you go out there and chase 'em off, they seldom come back for a while, and you can figure on going ahead and shooting without being bothered for most of the day. Turkeys, in my experience, are both unpredictable and crazy stupid. I'll stick to occasional deer and elk. If I chase them, they don't start gobbling and fly back over my shoulder - back on the line of fire.

Tuesday, 7/12/16, 200 meters, Savage Striker, 22-250, 225646M, 2.395” loa, Simmons 6.5-20. 5 groups 5 shots, 7.5 Titegroup AVG. 2.990"
4 groups 5 shots, 8/SR4756 AVG. 3.378" This load with Hornady gas checks averaged 1.415” at 100 yards, for 20 groups. There's slight tipping at 100 yards, lotsa tipping at 200 yards. The Striker barrel is 14” twist. This is only the second experience that I can remember where a bullet lost stability/accuracy between 100 and 200 yards.

remember there is more wind/air density layers by the time the bullet arrives at 200 yards .
my 225462 casting tipped a little in my 14 twist/ 1400 fps .
still, 4 inches at 200 m. is a complete success for most of us .
i b impressed .

Joe, remind me which barrel you are using in this thread?

Joe, remind me which barrel you are using in this thread?
This is a stock Savage Striker pistol with 14” barrel, 14” twist, all stainless. I have a 14” .308 Win barrel, but have not tried it yet. Also have other 22” 22-250 barrels.
I wish I had results of other rifles/pistols, other shooters multi-group results. Accuracy varies a lot over the 20 groups. Contender or MOA or Competitor groups would be interesting.

Today there was a black powder shoot on the 100 yard range, so I had to shoot the Striker at 200 meters. 8/Titegroup.
225415, 2.45, 2.2, 2.9, 2.85 ( trouble sighting in so no 5th group) avg. 2.600"
225646M, 2.175, 4.85-one of those flyer groups, 3.225, 2.15, 2.45,, avg 2.97"
It seems to like more powder, see the graphs/charts.

Titegroup has become my favorite powder, I use it in many of my rifle and handgun rounds and it works very well. Joe is aware of this and I believe most of you are, but a warning for the novice. Titegroup can go from just about right to “Whoa Buddy” in a very short order, so be careful with it. Gp

your striker barrel seems best of the three ... what happens if you put on one of the other barrels on the striker ??....
is it the action or the barrel ??
