I recently acquired a Siamese mauser that has been re-barreled to 348 winchester and I'm looking for some mid range loads for a 200 grain cast bullet with a gas check.  I'm still waiting on a lube sizing die from  midway. Any help is appreciated!

... great project ..  do check for headspace etc. on other people's conversions .... and, can you get us a little closer on your " mid-range " velocity goal ??   1300 ... 1500 ... 1800 ..?   i have some old loader books that might have some loads ...

for myself and for 14,000 psi loads i often extrapolate ...  from other loads with about the same case capacity ... but even then it is best to sleep on that decision and " think three times " ... about what could go wrong ... heh ...

Lyman 44th Edition lists the following for a 187 Gr. gas checked bullet which should be close enough:

20 gr. 2400 for 1610 f/s

20 gr. 4227 for 1510 f/s

25 gr. 4198 for 1672 f/s

35 gr. 3031 for 1818 f/s

These were all starting loads.

Hope this helps.

The headspace is fine Ken. I figured I'd be safe with at least 20 grains of 2400!  Got a good deal on a 2 cavity RCBS mould. Just waiting for the sizing die now.

I shot 23 grains of 5744 under a 230 grain Karabiner bullet in an 8x58 Remington Danish Roller. That should work fine in a .348.

I forget what I was shooting in my 71 last time I shot it, but I did find (and I think Ed has posted up that this is typical of 2-piece stocks) that light loads of Unique, etc. shot really low, I had to go to something like 3031 in a moderately stout load to be able to shoot to the sights.  Mine is a deluxe with the bolt-mounted peep.  It does not have enough elevation available to bring "squib" loads onto the paper.
