FWIW,

Velocity = High   1750 f/s with 311316

Accuracy = poor  4 inch groups at 50 yards

Reducing  powder charge from maximum made accuracy even worse.

This from both an original 1894 Marlin with a new barrel and a 1930's Savage 23C.

In several Savage M/23's with 3118 of ACWW:

3.0-3.5 Bullseye for a mild game and plinking load - excellent in my rifles, generally 1” at 50 yds., give or take a little. I had to go to 3.5 with the “new” Bullseye to get the same accuracy. I don't need much velocity with these and 3118 works well on small game, foxes and 1 turkey. If I ever chronographed it I don't recall the results. The Bullseye load is just one of those reliable loads that works all the time and I've been using it so long that it's my standard. Guess I should work up a warmer load but haven't found the need.  I have the “group buy” 32-98SWC but haven't done much with it.

Herco is very good as well but I don't recall the charge.

I just bought my first Lil'Gun for use in full power .357 loads, hoping for velocity with lower pressure.

Keep your plowshare and your sword. Know how and when to use them.

In the “Pistol Cartridge” class of Lever Silhouette I shoot a 32-20 .

My preferred load is the Lyman 311316 cast from WW's and aircooled . Pushed by 5 grains of Unique . This powder bullet combination does very well on the rams at 100 meters .

Back when I had a .32-20 rifle and before I got into my current bunnygun fettish I has best results with #3118 cast 1:25 shot as-cast and unsized, with 4.0 to 5.0 grs. of Unique or PB or 3.0 to 3.5 of Bullseye, or 3.5-4.0 of SR7625.

In rifles a nominal “caseful” of 4198 works well if you have a smooth barrel.

My best load was 6.5-7.5 grains of 2400... until I found out how well a case load of H-322 worked, 14-16 grains.  This is in a Marlin 1894CL.

My 92 half mag carbine loves 311316 from wheel weights pushed by 5 grains of unique as the mild load and same bullet pushed by 13 grains 4227 for heavy load. I dont use the last load much, Shot a few deer & hogs with it. Cheers Euan.

Looks like I'll start with Unique. Yancey has the 311316. I'll keep an eye open for the 3118/311008.

Thanks guys.

I might add .

Brain Pearce had an article in “Handloader Magazine” a year or so ago where he used the 311316 and H-110 .

He clains 12.5 grains of H-110 will give you about 1,950 FPS from a 24” barreled 1892 Winchester .

He also said he had used this load a time or two to kill a deer . Which I why I remmembered it as I have all intentions of trying it at some point .

In a rifle with barrel longer than 20 inches a nominal caseful of RL-7 works well too. It would be very much like KenK's H322 load. If buying a new mould and you want a gang one, the 115-gr. plainbased version of the NEI #82 is almost a dead ringer for #3118. A six-cavity aluminum block to fit RCBS handles will cost you $140. Great for volume production if you have a handgun too or just like to plink alot. Mine casts .303 nose and .315 bands, I size .314, which is right for the Marlins.

I have a model 53 browning in 32-20 I load a Lee 115/GC, BHN15, Group buy mold casting at .314, sized and checked to .313, alox lube, 14gr WC680, Rem Small rifle match, Starline brass necksized.

I shoot Silhouette with this gun and barrel sights, ther is no sight change from Chickens to Rams.  on the Chrony 1620fps

I also have a 6Cavity Lee mold that cast a bullet similar to 3118, but at .315 sized to .313 and 5grs Unique is 1160fps on the Chrony, very accurate.
