Please help me with data for the 7.62x39 (.308) shooting a 200 grain gas checked cast bullet. I want to hit 1000fps out of a 19” barrel. I have been searching the internet for days with no luck, please help!

I think ric bowman worked up some loads that were sub-sonic. you might send him a message. i am not sure he used a 200 gr. bullet but i know he tried some heavy bullets at low speed. joe gifford aka argie1891

if you think you have it figured out then you just dont understand

There was an article published in HANDLOADER #177, October, 1995, that may contain data you'd be interested in - all cast bullets, some over 200 grains in a 7.62x39 Ruger bolt action. However, none of the loads are as slow as 1000 fps.

Try about 14 grs. of RL-7, check over your chronograph and adjust from there.

Do you have any reloader 7? I cannot find this stuff anywhere in louisville or southern indiana.

You could try 4 grs. of Red Dot or Bullseye and see if it gets out of the barrel.  I load 5 grains of Bullseye in the 7.62x39 with lighter 150-gr. cast bullets and it shoots well.  I would be afraid to try any more with a 200-grain because it would probably run pressure up.

I think your best best would be about 60% of a full charge with RL-7, as this powder is versatile and forgiving in the small case. If velocity is a bit higher than you want for low noise, cautiously adjust in small increments downward from there, but anywhere in the range of 14-16 grains is a prettty good cast load, up to about 20 grs. max.

MATT That is a correct charge for a .30-30, I would not less than a full grain for the smaller 7.62x39 case.

Let's see if this works.......

DANG!!!! IT DID!!

This is the data from the Handloader article referenced above.

This just in from somewhere else (Cast Boolits?):

200gr cast - Red Dot 4.5gr = 900 fps (Steve VanSlyke)

200gr cast - Trail Boss 5.5gr (better load density) = 900 fps (Steve VanSlyke)
