I wish to shoot 180 grain cast lead alloy bullets using Vihtavuori N140 powder. (.308 Winchester)

Can anyone recommend a sensible starting load for this please or tell me where I can find out?

Or, which USA powder is similar ?

Are there any books on this kind of data?

Many thanks. Merry Christmas from London UK! M. Jay

According to the Lyman reloading manual VV N140 is close to the burning rate of Varget HTH

30 grains of Varget is a popular load. Should be a good place to start with N140.

Look in the match results on the main website for production class. You will find a lot of different powders, the equipment used and how that shooter scored with that load. There are several years of match results that you can draw info from.

Looking over my shooting data in my 308Win with a 215gr MX4, this is my results for VV140.............31gr1,988fps, 31.5gr2,009fps, 32gr2,031fps, 32.5gr2,067fps, 33gr2,062fps, 33.5gr2,087fps, 34gr2,104fps, 34.5gr2,112fps.

Of course your 180gr cb will have a higher velocity with these loads. All these loads were safe in my instance. Yes, I also find that Varget is a good comparison and a good choice of powder for the 180gr, or even H4895 at 26-28gr load. Good luck............DanW
