There's a fellow by the name of Bruce Brandt making bullet molds in Michigan !

Evidently he's been doing it for a few years now . Well I just found out about him a month or so ago . Started conversations with him over the RD style 432-375GC and 432-400GC .

Well after perusing his website I noticed he made a 462-465GC mold and expressed an intrest .

Here's a link to his site by the way !

Anyway Bruce was kind enough to send me some samples of his 462-465GC bullet for my 1972 vintage Marlin 1895 .

I tried some today with just H322 and Federal 215 primers .

Shot charges at 41.5 . 42.5 . 43.5 and 44.5 .

Let me say all shot well enough to hunt with but of that bunch 43.5 was the winner today !

I wanna load 3 more up of both 43.5 and 44.5 with the remaining 2 to be loaded with 45.5 !

This is turning into another one of those gotta have molds !

Don't need it but gotta have it !

Oh yeah back to the rifle I used today . These first models of the Marlin 1895 that was brought into production in 1972 have semi curved plastic buttplates . Last summer I semi damaged my shoulder shooting this same rifle with hot loads for the Ranch Dog 460-425GC bullet . So today before I went out I took an old Pachmayer slip on pad I have and slid it over the but . While it isn't a Limbsaver or KickEez it is better then just the buttplate . So hopefully this summer I won't make a knot form on my shoulder .>

Shot some more of these bad boys today !

43.5 of H322 was pretty decent , then 44.5 grains was a bit better . That left me with the remainig to bullets to be pushed by 45.5 grains of H322 and for 2 shots they were the best so far !

Really wish I'd had one more bullet to see what 3 with 45.5 looked like !

Well hopefully I'll have mold in hand in about a month !

Got the mold and TP for this one !

Hopefully I'll be able to cast some of these next week and possibly shoot them next week as well !

I cast maybe 75 of these late last week but haven't had a chance to run them thru the Lyman 4500 yet !

I wanna get this bullet and the Ballisti Cast 462-550GC mold I got last week to the range in the next week or so if possible !

Got the BRP 462-465GC bullets I had cast and the Ballisti Cast 462-550GC bullets I cast lubed , checked and sized !

So “maybe” I can get some loaded in the next few days and get back to load development !

Based on my earlier testing with the bullets Bruce sent me 44.5 grains of H322 did very nicely in my rifle . So I have loaded up enough with that charge to get the gun sighted in . Also loaded 3 up with 45.5 grains of H322 just to see if they will do any better .

After that I loaded some of the Ballisti Cast 462-550GC bullets ! Loaded 3 of each of the following charges with a CCI200 primer in WIN brass . 37 grains 38 grains 39 grains 40 grains

Provided they look okay and aren't to terribly hard on the shoulder I may step it up a grain or two . But then 12 of those BIG BOYS from the bench in a session will probably be more then enough !

Well I made it to the range this evening with 4 of my 444's and a 45-70 !

Took my 1972 Model 1895 . It's got a Weaver K3 60B on top in Weaver mounts .

I tried the BRP 462-465GC bullets in it first ! The 44.5 grains of H322 shot great and the 45.5 grains shot about as well !

That was six shots so I cleaned the barrel walked down and scribbled on the target and walked back to shoot some of the Ballisti Cast 550's !

Shot the 37 grains of H322 first and the 3 were not terrible but not great either and a bit high ! Then I tried 38 grains of H322 and they were higher yet and not so good !

I sat there for a moment and felt the barrel to see how hot it was . And for some reason put my hand on the scope . When I touched the scope it moved a bit in the base . Great !

I'm not sure if it was getting loose with the 465's or if those 6 550's broke it loose . But one things for sure I'll have to Loc Tite the base screws and go shoot some more .

Well I've removed the scope and base cleaned the threads with alcohol . Then put the base back on with a drop of Blue LocTite on each screw . Remounted the scope as well .

When I got home I loaded some more of the BRP 462-465GC bullets to resight and try a group at 100 yards .

Also loaded 3 of the 550's with 41 grains of H322 .

Incidently I put a BRAND NEW Pachmyer slip on Decelerator pad on the 45-70 and after those 12 or so shots the other day . The toe of the stock ate a hole thru the cuff on the recoil pad !

6pt-sika I know what you mean about the BRP molds. They are great. I got a 462-420 with and without GC cut into the same mold. They are the most accurate bullets I have. I don't shoot them at hot as you do, more like 36 to 38 gr of RL7. Gets me around 1400 to 1500fps out of a 20” barrel. At a 100 yds I can cover the first 3 holes with a quarter. 5 always opens up to around 1 1/2"

Great molds

I sent Bruce some drawings I had Tom Myers make of a 432-375GC and a 432-400GC . Both of these have nose profiles similar to the Ranch Dog molds but they have more traditional grease grooves . And just let me say they are doing better then expected after the first trip to the range ;)

I am hoping with the 462-465 to keep 3 inside an inch and a half at 100 yards .

My renditions of the BRP 462-465GC and the Ballisti Cast 462-550GC . Both cast from wheelweights , water quenched and sized at .461” and lubed with a mixture of Thompson's Blue ANgel and RCBS rifle lube .

Went out to the range this AM with a bunch of 444's and the 1972 45-70 .

Shot the 45-70 after I got done with the 444's . First up in the 45-70 was the BRp 462-465GC loaded with 44.5 grains of H322 . The gun had vibrated the scope base loose last week so I had Loc Tie'd the screws in place . Today it stayed and amazingly enough needed no scope adjustments . The first group at 50 yards was good so then I fired the 465 grainer at 100 yards with satisfying results .

After that I had the Ballisti Cast 462-550GC bullets to shoot . Shot all these at 50 yards . Had 3 of each 39 , 40 and 41 grains of H322 . The 39 looks pretty good at 50 , the 40 opened up some and the 41 looked pretty good !

So now I need to try the 40 and 41 grains of H322 a couple more times .

I went to the range this AM to shoot a few things , and of course carried along the Model 1895 circa 1972 with the old Weaver K3 on top .

Wanted to make sure the BRP 462-465GC with 44.5 grains of H322 was sighted in dead on at 100 yards . And it was !

Next I tried the Ballisti Cast 462-550GC with 39 grains of H322 at 100 yards . Believe it or not I shot a nice little 3 shot group that was a hair under 2” . Then I shot a 3 shot group with 40 grains of H322 and that one was right at 2 1/2” . All in all I thought not to bad for a 38 year old rifle , 35 year old scope and 49 year old man !!!!
