BLUE GOO BORE SOLVENT-IT WORKS VERY GOOD

I got the formula for mixing up Blue Goo bore solvent a few months ago. I think Ken Campbell was the fellow that sent it to me. I had some mixed up for several months and had never used it until yesterday. I had a stubborn barrel and decided to try the Blue Goo. It is a great copper solvent. It is not supposed to be for powder fouling, only copper fouling, but it sure did help loosed up the hard powder fouling so that  regular old bore solvent could better do its job. If you haven't tried it, you might want to give it a try. I had some Bench Rest Brand copper solvent on hand and the Blue Goo worked much better. Now, I'm going to mix up some of Ed's Red and give it a try on lead and plastic fouling.

Sorry that I haven't answered your question, I have been busy deer hunting and watching my Grandson and Grand daughter play high school basketball (that itself is almost a full time job). I haven't been on the forum in several days or read my email messages. .Blue Goo is a home brewed copper solvent that a chemist contrived back in early years. It is a mixture of Ammonia,  Hydrogen Peroxide and about 10-12 inches of 12 gauge copper wire left in it for a few days. It won't dissolve all of the wire but it will dissolve a lot of it. When it turns dark blue it is ready to use.  I'll have to dig out the amounts of each if I can find it. Send Ken Campbell a message, he's the one that dug out the website article for me, or I think he was. It turns the copper fouling into a ion of copper that doesn't adhere to the bore and allows it to be pushed out. The second patch that you run through you also put a couple of drops of Hydrogen peroxide on it in addition to the blue goo. He says that this helps activate the solvent.  It is not a powder solvent but I found it does help soften hard caked powder fouling. The website explains how it works, the formula for mixing , and how to use it. I just checked my notebooks and I can't find the formula information, sorry. It is very economical to make.

Hello beagle6,

I finally located the formula for blue goo or blue goop or whatever you want to call it.

3/4 Quart 29% ammonia

3-4 tablespoons of Hydrogen Peroxide

10-12 inches of 12-14 gauge copper wire

Put in quart jar and add the copper wire keep cap on loosely

Agitate lightly every day 

Take wire out after 3 days(I left mine in longer than that)

When it turns dark blue it is ready to use

to the best of my knowledge; benchrest shooters stopped using ammonia based bore cleaners many years ago; because it damages the bore. ( i used to use sweets, but, no more). there are many copper removers out there that are safe to use. why take the chance?

I made up a batch of Blue Goop a while back but haven't tried it on anything.  I do have a barrel that's giving me fits.  Think I'll try it out.  Don't have much to lose.

Here's the complete instructions for using it.  Seems you add peroxide during swabbing.  I tried it.  Seems to work.  I flushed the barrel - and I do mean flushed - with WD-40 then oiled it.
