Czech VZ24 8MM Mauser Cast Bullet Opinions

I have just acquired an extremely clean VZ24 that I am looking forward to shooting in postal matches.  Upon getting home, I slugged the bore and was surprised to find the it measured .328 at the grooves and .312 on the lands.  Has anyone had experience with an 8mm bore of this size?

No experience with the 8mm but I shoot two mausers in the military matches. Both FN's, One, an Israeli 7.62x51 mm and the other a Venezuelan short rifle in 7x57mm.  

What is the diameter of the throat? That's the important dimension. The throats in the above  as well as the other military rifles that I have are all larger in the throat than the groove.

I am not able to do a pound cast yet as I am waiting on brass and a low cost Lee mold.  I plan on acquiring a custom mold from Tom at Accurate eventually, but don't have enough information to make an intelligent decision as of yet.

.328 sounds awfully big.  I have had great results with the Lyman 323470. 

Al has some .326's on his list presently at NOE.

I've been through Al's lists and the one I am interested in is out of stock.  I'll send him a note to see if he can do one at .329 but I am not hopeful.  I was very surprised that it came out at .328, but I ran two slugs and measured with two different micrometers.  I have a Lee C329-205 that should arrive tomorrow and I will run a few test loads with it to see what happens.

Just finished the pound cast.  Basically no throat to speak of, but it will chamber a Lee C329-205 that dropped unsized at .329 at the bands and .312 on the nose..

Sounds similar to my Remington rolling block 7x57 Mauser. It has a throat but it is huge! NOE has some molds that I think would work but haven't decided whether I want to go any further with this beast or not. 

Yes, I too would be interested in how things turn out for you with another one of Paul Mauser's children.

I like Mark's videos BUT he has made some awfully inaccurate statements about cast bullet shooting.  He swears a .30-30 with its 'fast twist' barrel will not shoot cast bullets.  Arguably the BEST cast bullet cartridge ever.

i like the way his front rest rocks while he is shooting ... also, i identify with his 8 inch groups ( g ) ...

... and yes i think cast bullets lead us all into a few very inaccurate statements .....  namely everytime we state that ""  AHA !! ... we got it  '"' ...

I find very few gun videos that are worth my time to watch. Most in my opinion are wanna be gun writers that are searching for their 15 minutes of fame via the internet. "Here is me shooting this or that" etc, Many of these self appointed "evaluators" spew out down right inaccurate information and could make better use of their time doing something else.

Ken;  LOL. Another eight inch pattern shooter. The man seems to be worried  a lot about all the wrong things and paying no attention to the ones that do matter.  I'm a little over confident in my abilities at times so I shouldn't make fun,  That rest is a dandy.  Ok, on to the OPs question.   I like the NOE 326407 in my 8mm "Mousers" and have had some luck with the Lee 175gr. bullet.  Gp

Noe 326471 is an all around shooter in my 8X57.  The Lee 175 gr also shoots well.

Mid south Shooters has a couple of special molds for the 8mm. The 8mm Karabiner.  If you really want an over size mold they have a 8mm Maximum 225 gr mold.  Both of the Lee 8mm molds would make a great hunting bullet.
