Received a new LYMAN Digital Thermometer today.  I'm hoping to do some casting early Monday morning,  before the heat gets too bad. Will test it out then. I keep my casting thermometers in a gun safe. Unfortunately my RCBS one fell down unseen & was crushed when I shut the door. As my NOE has a cracked covering,  I don't know if I can trust it.

I too purchased the Lyman digital thermometer recently and have not used it yet. I plan on doing a article for the FS on it after testing. I would be glad to include you on the article and use your test results, if you want. I think the test would be more accurate and useful if data would come from the two independent tests.

My first and only Lyman dial thermometer is was a complete bust.  It starts dead cold at about 500 *C, and goes up from there.  I didn't even try to send it back.  My PID controller that Pig Slayer built does a much better job of telling me the temp.

I have only had one chance to use it and it seemed to work fine, but as yet have not been able to test it against dial thermometers. After I have cleaned up and made repairs from Harvey, I still intend to do a write up in the FS on it.

I tried one this morning that I purchased in July.It seems to be reading the air temperature when I turn it on.When I insert the probe in the molten alloy it displays the numeral 1 and stays there.I just emailed Lyman about the problem. At least the PID on the Mag25 checks out with a Brownells dial thermometer.

I received the replacement thermometer yesterday. This one works fine.I attached the thermocouple from the new thermometer to the old one and it works as well.I suspected the thermocouple was bad and had already ordered a replacement from Amazon. The one I ordered seems to be the same as the Lyman part.Probably most of these that don't work have bad thermocouples.
