Don't drop bullets on a sawdust covered floor!

So I had put the first coat of Alox on about 300 pistol bullets. I put them all in a container & was headed to the shop to size them. I had to go to my woodworking area (basement) on the way to the shop and . . . . . . the container slipped, came open & all the bullets landed in sawdust. Well, since LEE Alox never seems to get completely dry I had 300 bullets covered in fine sawdust!! Crap!! Now what? Well I thought about it for a while & then spied a can of brake parts cleaner on the shelf. I spread the bullets out on a piece of galvanized sheet metal & hosed them down. I really didn't have to spray them all that much & all the Alox melted away & the sawdust just fell off! Whew! Got them sized & ready to coat them with Alox again!

Pat, It might be time to try a non tacky version of tumble lube! I have a lifetime supply of White's Deluxe 45:45:10 but if i didn't I sure would try the simple no cook version made with Liquid Alox and Johnson's Liquid Floor Wax known as "Ben's Liquid Lube". here is a link on how to make it:

Gary

Did you buy a gallon of that stuff or just a quart?

For my 44 Special, the dimensions of the throats and bullet, 246 grn RCBS SWC, are such that I can shoot them as cast. I lube with 50/50 Alox and either Johnson's liquid floor wax or mineral spirits. One coat. Never have found a need for two coats even when the bullets are sized. let dry for a couple of hrs. or over night and go shoot.

When I use Alox, which is seldom, I lube before sizing as the bullets go through the sizing die a whole lot easier. Then lube again afterwards. I always warm the bullets up first, as with the LEE liquid Alox. Doing it that way I never get lumps of Alox on the bullets. In fact sometimes it's hard to see the lube. Always a nice thin coat. 134

Do you coat, before and after you resize? I have trouble getting bullets to dry if coated to heavy,I try to coat ligtly, caot more if need be.

A light coat before & after. As per Onondaga's tip I warm the bullets in the oven on the lowest setting (150 degrees). I warm the lube until it is runny. Put my bullets in the container & a couple of squirts of warm lube. Tumble them around & dump them on waxed paper. That way there is a very light film on all the bullets. No big build up at all.
