Hello,

I hope this is just a rumor but it came from a very intelligent and well educated man. Here it is: My friend says either George Soros or one of his Hedge Funds is buying the Alliant Powder Company just so they can shut it down,. I've tried to google it with no success so this Is why I am asking you .I know there are a lot of people, whom I know, that shoot Re7 are out beating the stores and buying large quantities of it. Has anyone else heard this tale-rumor or fact, whichever it is? Let us hope it is just a rumor.

My guess is rumor, can't see the end game. It would do very little in the end to affect gun owners.

As a warning to all, be very careful with your posts and where this thread goes. Remember we don't allow political commentaries on this forum.

It was purchased several years ago. It is known a capitalism, as ATK is making money and, I understand, taking over Lake City to make military ammo. ATK (Alliant) makes only about 1/2 the powder they sell, as they merchandise hand loader powders form several European companies. It is just business as usual.

The powder companies of today work differently than the powder companies of the early twentieth century where they made and packaged their products. They are today repackagers as well as manufacturers. People not understanding this often get confused and rumors start.

Note: When I worked at John Deere Davenport Works in the late 1970's, there was always a new rumor each day about the company. I started a rumor every other day just to see how long it took to get back to me and how much it would grow. (I was bored.)

Hello David

, I meant nothing political when I made this post. However, I am very concerned with the surroundings around me that can effect my freedoms. I only hope the other members and non member shooters are as aware as I. I only posted to see i anyone had any legitimate information as to fact or fiction. From the first few responses that have been made, they all immediately jumped on the side that it was rumor without any substantiating information to support it. That isn't what I was asking for. I asked for facts.

Here is a interesting tidbit: The man who relayed this information and one of his chemist friends have received a patent for a new smokeless powder that supposedly is going to revolutionize smokeless powder. He has explained it to me but my chemistry knowledge is not evolved enough to understand his description of the product. I'm anxious and hope I live long enough to see if it materializes.

Yeah, I had a friend back in the mid 70s who dad had invented "the moluculizer". Attach it to your gas line and get 20 MPG more, attach it to your water line and it removes all contaminates. If you place it around your powder measure, it makes you loads super accurate

David,

Sorry that you took my statement as a joke. This powder has been made and tested, and has shown very good results. I didn't post this as a joke.

Mashburn,

Can you give us any clues such as a name, filing date, etc. so we can do a patent search?  Finding the patent document would be a certain way to quell some of the speculation and rude comments.

Maybe Soros just saw a profit, or wanted a deduction.  I know that Ted Turner used to (and still may) donate large sums of money to PETA while he maintained his elk and bison hunting operation in Montana.  The donation was in excess of 100K$, and it is believed that is the reason that PETA left his canned hunts alone.  Of course anything is possible, and in this political climate rumors are the order of the day.

There are times that I wonder whether or not the rumors are started by various jobbers and wholesalers just to increase their quarterly profits due to the panic buying.  When the gun control act of 68 was due to be activated my Dad was all upset because I was not home to tell him what components to buy so he would have ammo.  These thing remind me of the old game of "telephone" , by the time they get back to you they are totally unrecognizable.

Hello ten-mile,

I would have responded to  your question sooner but haven't been able to get on the forum. I could get on about once in a blue moon and when that occured, I could not click on a post, it would go to so and so error occured. I do not wish to release the Mens names, who have the patent, and I do not know anything about the patent number and date. I has been over a year, I think, since it was patented. They are presently looking for a manufacturer. They both live in St. Louis, Missouri.

Thanks for your interest,

Mashburn
