Update: First of all thank you all for the prayers and best wishes.
Our home was built in 1930 and is on pier & beams, it has never flooded. During the 70's the previous owners built an addition on a slab that is about 24" lower than the original part of the home. The flood water got into the newer addition up to about 6". This newer addition contains a bedroom, bathroom, utility room, hallway and my gun/reloading room. The flood water came up so fast (within 30 minutes) that it caught us off guard. When my wife and I discovered the water it was already a couple inches deep. We were able to unload all three of my gun safes, but not before water started coming in them. Luckily know guns were damaged, even the two handguns my wife dropped into the water. Once we had everything up in that we could, I stripped the two handguns all the way and cleaned them before any damage could occur. We ended up losing little personal property, but of course all the carpets and a good bit of the sheetrock had to be pulled out. The bad news is we, like 80% of those affected by the flooding waters, have no flood insurance. Our home was considered to be above the 200 year floodplain. Unfortunately we received between 45 & 50 inches of rain in 2 days, going over the 500 or 800 year floodplain, no official account yet.
The even worst news is that my son's home was flooded with between 2 & 3 FEET of water. He is a fireman and has not been home since last Wednesday and don't know when he will get home. His wife and kids stayed elsewhere and we safe. Our oldest daughter and family in the Tomball area were spared, as well as the rest of our family. Even our youngest daughter & her husband who lives in Corpus Christi and is 6 months pregnant, was spared damage to her home, by the grace of god.
All of our neighbors got flooded completely. So as you can see on the news, it is real bad. Please, please donate to the Red Cross or other charities that will help the victims. The people of southeast Texas really need it.
