I am contemplating trying out the 225646 in my Rem 700 .223 Remington.  I plan on using Red Dot, Unique, Universal, & Blue Dot and was wondering if anyone who has tried this bullet in the .223 Remington had good results.  I have done well with a 225462 w/ Unique.

Joe Brennan found 225646 one of the better 22 bullets in his extensive testing a year or so ago.  Joe could tell you more. Look up his old threads on 22 cast bullets.

See my thread on "Squirrel Bullet Mold Tests" in the category "Bullet Molds" about four weeks ago. I don't think you will find better 22 bullets for both slow or fast twists than the two I tested.

A detailed test report on 22 cast bullets will be in the next Fouling Shot or two. I believe there are better powders than the ones you list.  Join the CBA.

It may depend on what twist you have in that 700.  The bullets you are looking at are on the long and heavy side for a .22 bullet, and may not do well with very light loads.  No harm in trying though.

I have had real good luck with the 225415 flat-point, in all sorts of .22 centerfires, from Hornet to Swift.  My first cast bullet loads were with this bullet, initially cast by a buddy who had turned me on to cast bullets, in a "pencil barrel" Ruger M77 in 22-250 (these at least were, (have not been there in years)  very popular deer rifles in East Texas, where the deer run small - a relatively light and accurate rifle that hardly kicks at all, and with decent shot placement (I'm talking jacketed bullets here, more or less full loads or factory ammo) kill those small deer just fine.)

The Rem 700 .223 Remington is a 1 in 12" twist.....or slow.  Shooting the 225462 I find I must shoot them at 2,100 FPS + to get good accuracy.

I get great accuracy in a 1-12 twist with the 225462 at 1700fps.

Thank you!  Can you advise what load you are using...no sense for me to reinvent the wheel!

I'm using the Lee 55 gr in .223/5.56 with 10 gr of 2400 at 2000 fps.  I had been shooting this combination for a couple of years in my bolt guns and decided to build an AR to handle the same load.  All three rifles use 1 in 12" twist barrels.  All shoot the round accurately.

Because I said so!
