... a neighbor just brought a colt 1917 to me to look at ... about 90 % cosmetically and very tight ... it was a later model with the chamber stop for the 45 acp with no clips ...  a local gunsmith/pawnshop had told him it was unsafe and offered about $40 for it.

we shot it before he left happy ...  of course i primed him about casting for it ...

has anybody noticed these old guns whisper to you ?? ...

They all had chamber stops and would work with or w/o moon clips and also 45 Auto Rim that Starline makes.

That's the last one I need to complete my collection. Hard to find one that was not rebuilt and parkerized for WW II.

Many guns "whisper". A decade ago I co-wrote a book GUNS THAT TALK. Available on Amazon.

I have my Father's New Service .45 Colt he carried in Guadalcanal and Guam; whispers each time I open the safe,

A South Dakota town marshal bought the revolver new and carried it for duty, One day the marshal was walking down the main street when four bank robbers exited the bank in front of him. The ensuing gun battle ended with a score Marshal = 4, bank robbers = 0. The marshal retired to Rock Island, Illinois. He sold it since Dad was going into the US Marines and the marshal was retired. In his spare time, the marshal carved an Easter Bunny into the grips.

Dad was wounded on the beach on Guam, evacuated to a hospital ship and transported to Hawaii. While headed for Hawaii, the hospital ship was stopped by a Japanese submarine who boarded the ship searching for weapons. The doctors knew Dad had this revolver and the Marine next to him had a 1911 that his father had stolen out of the Corps in WWI. The doctors took them and hid them until the Japanese had left the ship.

That is cool as it is a civilian model with the longer bbl ! Wish we had been able to put it in our book. The Colt NS on top of the trunk belonged to Ruth Roach a famous early performing Cowgirl.
