Hi everyone, I am a relatively new Reloader (about 9 months). I shoot 9mm, 45ACP, 45colt, and I just bought a 45-70.

I started with some pre-made plated, currently buying lead and I am just starting to get up the courage to take the plunge into casting my own! I look forward to learning from everyone here.

Welcome to the group Paul. That looks like a good group of guns to start casting bullets for. Larger bullets are easier to cast when you're just starting out.  Gp

Welcome, I give serious answers to serious casting problems and basics. it"s fun. I am a retired casting analyst from the gold industry. Casting since 1955 at age 5 with gold and at 7 for my first flintlock. Most of my casting is currently for .458 Win Mag that I shoot the most and these bullets are the same you might cast for your 45-70.

Welcome to the affliction  Levergun 1966,

I will just add that there is a great wealth of info in the archives on this forum. Chances are that by using the search feature, you will find answers to the many questions that you may have there. And if you haven't already, get some references for yourself. Such as Lyman's Cast bullet Manual 4th edition. Another is "Cast Bullets for Beginners and Experts" by Joe. Brennan. Well worth the money. Both of these books are pretty comprehensive. Shortens the curve a lot.

Do some homework and feel free to ask.

Welcome ! glad to see another poor  guy suckered in by the smell of a can of fresh powder. And that special feeling of a freshly loaded cartridge in your hand, loaded with a bullet cast, lubed & sized by your own hand.

You can't go wrong on any LYMAN Handbook. If you're going to reload for the .45-70 you might look into Paul Mathews books  on the .45-70. BuffaloArms.com has some of them.

Check the archives and other threads here, I think you'll find answers on just about anything.
