I use air tight 50 cal  ammo cans to store all my bullet molds. Do aluminum molds need to be coated with any preservative when store this way?

Other than physical protection from dropping the can, there is only one issue. If the ammo can is on a concrete or grounded surface and the paint is worn off and the paint is worn off the inside so that the mould is grounded. With high moisture, there can be electrolysis of the aluminum. Saw this several times at the Aeronca airplane parts maker in Ohio.

Thanks Rick

Ever since I started buying aluminum molds, I've wondered. All my storage cans that I use for mold storage have been accumulated over the years and are basically new. And are stacked off the concrete.

Just got another NOE four cavity a week ago, 358-128-SWC for my 9mm. After boiling it in water and Dawn dish soap for 45 minutes or so, followed by four cycles, 12 castings, it started dropping perfect castings, four at a time. .
