Don't give up too soon. The thought of a shoulder-to-shoulder match is very intimidating to a person who have never shot one before.

There are shoulder-to-shoulder matches in Montana, Oregon, and Washington. While this approach entails travel, the results and camaraderie are worth the effort.

In August, there is a two-day match for group and score at Springfield, Oregon. This is well-attended and has a great steak-fry on Saturday night.

Once the 2018 dates are set, they will be published in the "Matches" header on this site.

Bhyett: Thanks. I talked to Swede of NOE molds fame, and I think we may start with just a shoot instead of a formal comp. We also want to teach a bullet casting class, maybe combine the two as our start. Utahns are independent cusses(not meant as a put down,I'm some what reclusive also)and usually have lots of family activities so getting something formal won't happen over night. But I could use all the help and encouragement I can get. Ross

Ross,

You are on the right track. 20 years ago I had guys over to watch me cast bullets, then we shot them. Out of about 8 folks, three are hardcore cast bullet shooters. Bullet casting is popular with prepers and survivalist besides target shooters. Surprisingly teenagers like to cast bullets and shoot them, until they get bitten by the black gun, shoot 1000 rounds a day bug, lets make noise.
