Iteresting story in the Los Angeles Times this morning about the Walmart shooting in Colorado. When the police viewed all the videos after the fact, they had trouble identifying the shooter because of all the other people that had their carry guns drawn.

What if they had arrived while the incident was in progress?

It should make all who carry consider the possibilities of what could happen when the police show up. What would you do? How would you handle it if an officer spotted you with your carry gun drawn in a stress charged situation such as this.

Just some things to think about.

My son, the DA, says that when you see the uniformed officers, you put your weapon on the floor, put your foot on it, raise your hands and loudly say "I'm the victim" three times for the security cameras. FWIW

As a retired police officer, I will add this. Keep calm, very calm. Speak only when asked a question by the police. Follow their instructions to a t, you don't know if you are dealing with a 20 year veteran or a rookie just out of the academy. Again keep calm when you are handcuffed, they are only doing this for their safety. Just because they are running toward the danger, doesn't make them unafraid, they are no less human than you are.
