I didn't know all that about them, that sounds screwed up. I know it's a can of worms but I don't consider the new Miroku 73 a Winchester, it's a gorgeous gun though and I wouldn't mind having one.

It was earlier than that. Western Cartridge Co. purchased Winchester Repeating Arms in 1931, and renamed it Winchester-Western. The company was later restructured as Olin Corp. Olin licensed the manufacturing rights to USRAC in 1981. USRAC failed in 1989. and FN has held the manufacturing rights since then. Model 94 rifles with the Winchester name on them are currently being produced by Miroku, and are marketed by Browning Arms, another FN purchase. Like many others, the whole FN/Winchester debacle has pissed my off so bad that I won't buy another Winchester marked rifle.

After some more digging I found out, it was Jan.17, 2006 for the last lever action and it was a Mdl. 94.
