SLOW JACKETED BULLETS
I’ve loaded and shot some jacketed bullets at cast bullet velocities, with Titegroup powder.
In 223 and 22-250 I’ve used 5.7 to 8 grains of Titegroup with 225438, 225415 and 225646M cast bullets.
Most are five, 5 shot 100 yard groups in inches. The successful jacketed bullet loads have been:
Savage M12 with Iffland HV barrel, 223
Nosler 40 gr. Varmageddon bullet
11/25/16; 7.0 Titegroup; .9, 1.025, .675, .675; average .819
11/28/16; 7.0 Titegroup; .95, .825, .55, .975, .75; average .810
1/4/17; 7.5 Titegroup, 1.025, .8, .9, 1.05, .6; average .875
Midway Dogtown 55 gr SP
12/19/16; 6.0 Titegroup; 1, .825, 1.5; average 1.108

12/26/16; .85, 1.125, 1.326, .6; average .975
Midway Dogtown 55 gr SP
12/26/16; 7.0 Titegroup; 1.3, .875, .9, 1.1, 1.2; average 1.075
1/13/17, 7.5 Titegroup, .95, 1.1, 1.025, 1.45, .85; average 1.075
1/20/17, 8.0 SR4756, .8, 1.0, .85, 1.175, .7; AVERAGE .905
SAVAGE M10, SHILEN 22-250 BARREL
Midway Dogtown 55 gr SP
2/3/17, 8/SR4756, .85, .975, .8, 1.3, .7; average .925
The Dogtown bullets are maybe second quality, and probably a mistake.
I’ve shot just-under-minimum-recommended jacketed bullet loads, and always got some green/blue with Hoppes #9. Only a few slow jacketed bullets gave any green/blue; there’s almost no copper fouling.
1/20/17 Starting to see VERY little green on some patches.
It appears that jacketed bullets shoot more accurately than cast bullets in my guns, at the cast bullet velocities I use.
