My project at the moment is to re barrel my Deerstalker from .50 down to either .40 or .38.I'm looking for a faster twist, say 1:20 and a longer barrel at say 30 inches. I don't have a genuine preference as I have several good quality molds for both sizes.Possibly leaning towards .40 just because it's that little bit bigger, although. Not sure. Powder is expensive over here. This will be a Target rifle, possibly used on Goat. What is the general consensus on the optimum barrel length. My 38/55 BPCR has a 27 1/2” barrel 1:20 and shoots pretty well. Just thinking I will need a bit more barrel to burn the powder in a muzzle loader.
Any thoughts.
