anyone like to share your favorite 30-30 loads? I would like a 165-170 gas check load.

Shooting today again confirmed that 17 grains of IMR 4198 x Fed 215 and 311291 GC is good load in my 94 .

My all time favorite load for the Savage 99, only 30/30 I own, is 14 grains of A2400, WLR primer and Hensley and Gibbs copy of the Ideal 31141. Always does well in lever gun matches for me. For a game load I use the Lyman 311334, 200 grain pointed cast from 1/2 WW's and 1/2 lead over 32 grains of H4831. That may not be a safe load in a Win 94. Works well in the Savage though.

Wow Ed! I'm impressed with the PCMR memorabilia. To the best of my knowledge that was the only "official" military use of the Winchester 1894.

When you get your next Fouling Shot, other military uses are covered. Thanks to Russ Arnold for the PCMR info and other tidbits he sent. The FS article is mostly historical but contains practical shooting and zeroing info from WW2 vets who trained defense plant and railroad security to use them.

I have four favorites. I don't shoot paper anymore, now that I can't focus good enough to get a clear sight picture. 1) 30gr IMR-4350 under any gas checked 165-200 gr cast bullet. Good deer round.
2) 30gr IMR-4064 under any gas checked 150-200 gr cast bullet. Another great deer round.
3) 6.0 gr Red Dot under a 113-152 gr plain based cast bullet. This is a great squirrel, rabbit, and varmint round. You can substitute 6.5gr Green Dot, or 7.0-8.0gr Unique, if you don't have RD.
4) 10 gr Unique under any 100-170 gr bullet regardless of construction, if cast will need GC. This a general purpose round, that is just plain accurate. Will also put a deer down.
5) 13 gr Blue Dot under any 113 -170 gr GC'ed cast bullet. Also works well with 125 -170 gr jacketed bullets. I love it under the 125 gr Sierra HP. This is a 2004 Alliant silhouette recipe for a 150 gr cast bullet. It really shines in my old 336.
I hope you can use these.

Have only found in one loading manual and can't recall which.

Good to see you weight in bushranch, and with good practical experience.

I use 20 gr of 2400 in my Marlin 336 which is 1.5 gr over the max load posted in most manuals. This load chronoes at 2000 fps with 31141 and similar bullets.
Because I said so!

Do you have a muzzle velocity on that 4831 load? I have a Remington 788 so stout loads, within reason, aren't a problem - particularly as a deer only load.

Would appreciate anyone who might know where I found a load for 311041 GC and 311291GC using up to 32 - 33 grs of IMR 4350 which chrono'ed in the mid 1800 fps range in a 336 and 64 Win new model from 70's. I found these loads and had good results in an 1899 Savage recently but can't find where they came from. Maybe something from Frank Marshall's writings?
Thanks, so I won't go crazy.
