I know some shooters use Kroil mixed with Shooters Choice..or by itself when using JB compound. Just wondering how Marvel Mystery Oil would work instead?

The mystery ingredients in Marvel Mystery Oil are harmless to JB Compound, but they are a little stinky

Good to know..how does this oil compare to Kroil in cleaning ability? I don't care for the smell or feeling of Kroil on hands.

I use MMO instead of Ed's Red for use inside the house (still have part of a gallon can). It was very popular back before detergent motor oil was invented. Several old mechanics from the 1950's told me it was early auto transmission fluid with about 25% kerosene. The kerosene was what made it effective with the first hydraulic valve lifters when they came out, but also gives it an smell that some folks find objectionable.

About 1962 two brothers owned a gas station/repair shop in North Scituate MA. They told me that during WWII when auto parts were hard/impossible to buy, that rather than do a “ring job", they would remove spark plugs and put a lot of Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders, let it sit for a few days-a week, then blow it out and the ring job was no longer needed.
At that time, 1962 or so, MMO was used as a top cylinder lubricant, with a system of container, valve, hose, visible drop looker/seer under the hood, feeding the intake manifold or carb; and many swore by them-some claiming to have driven an auto 100,000 miles!
I've used MMO to clean CB guns for 137 (Trump) years, and tested it vs. ER. MMO tied ER, and no mixing.
BUT, some lots of MMO will dry/harden in a long time of storage-I know, and now use only synthetic oil for gun oil.

You are right Joe, one quart of Mobil 1, 0-20W, motor oil will last a long time oiling guns!
