Report from Dan Henk.
Piedmont Gun Club hosted its first cast bullet match of the year on 25 February. Sixteen stalwart competitors travelled from North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, braving the mist, drizzle and occasional rain to shred the x-rings of the Cast Bullet Association (CBA) targets at 100 and 200 yards. Temperatures through the day remained in the mid 40s, contributing to the character-building experience! Three of the competitors were shooting their first cast bullet match, and two of these shot the top aggregate scores in their class. Class winners included CBA's youngest benchrest shooter, Nathan Daves (age 13) with an impressive aggregate score of 379 in Heavy Rifle, and Piedmont Gun Club President Tommy Williams, whose aggregate score of 391 in Unrestricted Rifle was the highest in match. Other match winners included Sarah Gilmore in Unrestricted Pistol, Dale Flinchum in Hunter Class and a close duel between Don Alexander and Denny Lyn in Plain Base Bullet, Don winning on the x-count. Despite the weather, competitors seemed to have a good time. Match Director (and CBA Regional Director) Dan Hisle and his wife, Sharon, provided a chili lunch between shooting events, a significant contribution to fellowship as well as a great feed! Piedmont Gun Club now sponsors a monthly CBA-sanctioned cast bullet match on the fourth Saturday of the month, with the next match scheduled for Saturday, 25 March. Piedmont Gun Club initiated its monthly cast bullet match in 2022 and has seen a slow but steady increase in participation.
